‘The Gulf of America’ – mass exodus

My main focus might be about addiction and the suffering caused by it for both the addicts and their loved ones, but I have my eye on other political and social issues. Back in May 2025 I completed this pictorial comment on the situation in the United States. I saw a gulf appearing on the world stage between America and its neighbours, but also among its own people. I was selling my work in an arts and crafts shop in Copenhagen last year, where I met many American tourists. Most of them were very concerned about the situation in their country, and many of them wished they could remain in Denmark rather than go back. This painting is a comment on the true Gulf of America – not the one between the States and Mexico, but the gulf that is forming all the way round the 50 States. Just today I heard about apparent mass immigration from the US, and about the mounting support by European and northern countries including Canada for Greenland and Denmark against America. It made me think that this painting has become more relevant even than when I first painted it over half a year ago. Sadly.
